ખોવાયેલા શહેરની શોધમાં (In search of lost city)
Hello, Book Lovers!
Today, I come with another part of I. K. Vijlivala's adventure series: "ખોવાયેલા શહેરની શોધમાં". Before you read this blog, I suggest going through the previous parts.
હીરાનો ખજાનો, લાલટુની ગુફ઼ાઓમા, ખોવાયેલા મિત્રની શધમાં,
Characters
Most of the characters are the same as before: Deek, Poll, Abana, Matadi, and Maicale Kaka.
- Herbert Garing – A German soldier
- Bruno – A crew member of Captain Smith
- Kagiso – A Bushman and fighter
A German soldier, Herbert Garing, came to Deek's shop to convert diamonds into pounds. He wanted to meet Deek and Robert because he had heard about their adventures from Captain Smith. But when he learned that a mysterious, powerful force had helped them every time, he decided to kidnap them. He only succeeded in kidnapping Robert. Robert sent a message to Deek:"I am going to the Kalahari Desert to find the lost city. Do not inform the police."
The Kalahari Desert, located in southern Africa and stretching across Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa, is a vast semi-arid region known for its red sands, intense heat, and unique wildlife. Though not a true desert due to seasonal rainfall, it remains a harsh environment with temperatures often soaring above 40°C. The desert is home to lions, cheetahs, hyenas, venomous snakes like the puff adder, and dangerous scorpions—making it a risky place for the unprepared. Despite the challenges, the indigenous San people have lived here for thousands of years, skillfully adapting to the tough conditions. The Kalahari also includes the lush Okavango Delta, which contrasts the dry surroundings but hosts crocodiles and hippos, adding to the region’s natural dangers.
The Journey Begins
Our heroes were ready for a new adventure. Dhuni Kaka gave Deek a strict that could absorb moisture and provide water, along with a purple herbal that could neutralize poison. Matadi’s ship had technical issues, so they decided to go with Captain William, cousin of Captain Smith. Captain Smith warned them about the challenges of the Kalahari—“the land without water.”
They planned to take off from Lyitritz Port, but the main problem was that they had no permission to step on the land—otherwise, they would be shot. Bruno also joined them, and with help from his brother, they safely escaped from German soldiers. They boarded a train carrying fireworks. Suddenly, the train stopped, giving them a chance to escape. Though a German soldier saw them, they managed to stay safe.
Bruno, who had never seen so many diamonds, began collecting them. Unfortunately, a snake spat venom into his eyes, causing him pain, but he recovered. The heroes were then trapped by Bushmen, but once the tribe realized they weren't German, they welcomed them to their village. Kagiso’s wife was suffering from a gynecological issue, and Abana successfully treated her—earning Kagiso's loyalty. He decided to join their crew.
Chasing the Truth
They set off for Kitmanshop City, but encountered a storm. Surprisingly, the storm turned out to be a blessing, allowing them to reach a German train unseen. Before reaching the station, they jumped off the train and blended in with local citizens. At the hotel, the receptionist told them,
“Four German soldiers, one Portuguese boy, and one Bushman stayed here two days ago.”
This worked as an alert, confirming they were on the right path.
They then moved toward Mount Advin. It was extremely difficult to climb, but with horses—and the hope of rescuing Robert—they pressed on. Before entering the hidden city, Kagiso made a demand:
“Do as I say, and don’t take any gold or diamonds.”
Everyone agreed. As they entered, Deek felt a strange déjà vu—like he had returned to a familiar cave. That night, Deek couldn’t sleep. From the city, he saw a large building radiating massive light. He decided to go there. Maicale Kaka and Kagiso joined him. They found four men asleep and a boy tied to a pillar—it was Robert.
Soon, the rest of the team arrived. Abana used a powerful root that emitted sleep-inducing smoke to disable the guards. However, Robert’s feet were chained to a soldier. Matadi found the key but fell asleep after an hour. Eventually, our heroes subdued all the soldiers.
Final Twist
When the soldiers woke up, they confessed everything. They wanted to steal the Diamond Statue of God, but failed. Suddenly, an earthquake struck. Our heroes escaped successfully, but Deek was injured. Matadi was confused about who saved Deek.
The readers find out the truth at the end of the journey. When Deek was empatying his bag, he found a piece of paper. It read:
"I am giving you another piece of marble today. It will come in handy when you visit Spain. And yes, if I had been even a little late, you would have been buried in that cave!
