Book Review: Art of Being Alone
Hello readers,
I’m back with another interesting self-help book: Art of Being Alone by Renuka Gavrani. The book is divided into two parts and contains eleven chapters. As the title suggests, it revolves entirely around the concept of solitude. Thank you, Yagndeep, for recommending this book to me.
“Alone” simply means being physically separated from others.
There are two types of people: introverts and extroverts. Introverts prefer to live alone, while extroverts believe in living together with others.
Love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, why would anyone else?
If you think someone will come into your life and magically change everything, that’s not how it works. You are the hero and the villain of your own life. My teacher used to say, “Wherever you are, you are the only one responsible.
People often think that being alone is a negative experience, but it can become a blessing if we truly understand ourselves and our goals—because then no one can interrupt us. For example, if you want to travel or do something in a group, you often have to consider others’ interests, and sometimes plans get canceled at the last moment. On the other hand, when you are alone, you can do whatever you like—reading, watching movies, dancing, or traveling—without needing to convince anyone.
”
Nobody stays for anyone forever. The great English writer William Shakespeare once said: “All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits ".This doesn’t mean you have to distance yourself from those who love you—but sometimes, you simply need time for yourself.
The book is full of powerful self-help quotes like:
1. “Being alone doesn’t mean you are lonely. Being alone means YOU ARE WITH YOURSELF.”
2. “Loneliness is not when you don’t have people around. Loneliness occurs when you cannot find yourself inside you.”
3. “There are some days when you miss yourself more than you have ever missed anyone else.”
4. “Your inner world has more wonders than the 7 wonders of the world.”
5. “To be able to create your dream life ONE DAY, you will have to act like your dream version every day.”
6. “You are not here to fit into this world. You are here to create your own.”
7. “The first step to being at peace with others is being at peace with yourself.”
8. “Solitude is not emptiness; it is the presence of your truest self.”
